“Seton made a transformation within himself, putting the best of what he had learned to work in the world – where it is working still.” |
David L. Witt, curator, naturalist and—with over 40 years experience researching, studying and writing about Ernest Thompson Seton—the Academy’s Seton Legacy Project expert, authored Ernest Thompson Seton: The Life and Legacy of an Artist and Conservationist in 2010 to accompany a major exhibition on Seton at the New Mexico History Museum in Santa Fe.
Today, this book stands on its own as the most up-to-date account of Seton’s accomplishments as writer, artist, and educator. With a foreword written by Sir David Attenborough, and over 200 illustrations and photographs, the book details the factual events and eventual outcome of Seton’s 1893-94 encounter with Lobo; his development as an artist; the foundations of wildlife conservation; the beginnings of the Boy Scout movement; and his final years in New Mexico.
Ernest Thompson Seton: The Life and Legacy of an Artist and Conservationist is a cornerstone of the Seton Legacy Project. Members of our Pathfinder’s Circle receive a free signed copy of the book, or it can be purchased online, through local bookstores, or by contacting the Academy at 505.995.1860 or at learn@aloveoflearning.org.
