The Seton Art Exhibit – An Opportunity to Contribute

As an expression of the Academy’s commitment to carrying forth Ernest Thompson Seton’s legacy, we are presenting this on-line exhibition of his work. From our collection of hundreds of Seton’s artworks, we have selected forty-five works on paper and three paintings.

We are seeking support in restoring and framing this art.  Please consider joining with us in preparing this beautiful collection to be shared with the Santa Fe community and beyond.  Would you consider “adopting” one of our furry or feathered friends or perhaps a woodcraft or book illustration?  By adopting one of these extraordinary images, your generous contribution will restore and/or frame the picture for viewing by future generations. These newly restored and framed works will go on display at the new Academy Center, which we plan to open in 2008.

Seton’s remarkable career as a writer, social innovator, and naturalist is beautifully illustrated by the work in this collection, which includes his first Canadian drawings, student work, and animal characters, as well as birds, mammals and woodcraft design illustrations from the 1870s to the 1920s.

We invite you to underwrite the cost for conservation and/or framing of a piece of your choice.  You may choose to have your name listed on the label copy of the displayed piece as a special friend of Seton, or you may remain anonymous.  Also, couples or groups may become the patrons of a particular piece. You may also choose to give a general donation to this project without choosing to sponsor a particular work of art.

These images, once restored and shown, may indeed touch and inspire many to deeper appreciation for the wildness and beauty in nature that so inspired Seton.

Thank you very much for your interest and participation!
